حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَزْهَرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ، عَنْ ثُمَامَةَ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَتَى مَوْلًى لَهُ خَيَّاطًا، فَأُتِيَ بِدُبَّاءٍ، فَجَعَلَ يَأْكُلُهُ، فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أُحِبُّهُ مُنْذُ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَأْكُلُهُ


Anas ibn Malik (RA) narrated:


Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) went to (the house of) his slave tailor, and he was offered (a dish of) gourd of which he started eating. I have loved to eat gourd since I saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) eating it.

Gourd is also mentioned in Quran, in Surah Saaffaat ayah 145 and 146 where Allah ﷻ says:


۞ فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌۭ ١٤٥ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةًۭ مِّن يَقْطِينٍۢ


"But We cast him onto the open ˹shore˺, ˹totally˺ worn out, and we caused a gourd plant to grow over him"


This is referring to Yunus (AS) after he came out from the belly of the whale. Many types of Gourd are a creeper and climber plant type such as the bottle gourd, and it is significant that this verse describes it in this way. It most likely provided shelter and food as well as healing for Yunus (AS) after emerging from the belly of the whale.
