Ajwa dates are revered by every Muslim and are definitely the most famous variety of dates. In hadeeth the ajwa date itself is described as being from Jannah. In many other ahadeeth, the Prophet ﷺ said that eating ajwa dates are a protection from sihr and also a cure and protection from poison.
But did you know that the seeds of the ajwa dates, crushed and eaten together were also recommended by Nabi ﷺ for heart disease?
One one occasion the famous sahabi, Sa'd Ibn Abi Waqqas (RA) was suffering from an illness. The Prophet ﷺ visited him during this illness and the incident is recorded in Sunan Abu Dawud as follows:
Sa‘d (RA) said:
When I was ill the Prophet ﷺ came to visit me, and he placed his hand between the two sides of my chest, such that I felt its (refreshing) coolness in my heart, He ﷺ said, “You are suffering from a heart disease. Go to al-Harith b. Kalada who belongs to the Thaqif clan, for he practices medicine, and get him to take seven of the 'ajwa dates of Medina and pound them together with their stones, then administer them to you in the inside of your cheek.”
This was a profound remedy prescribed by the Prophet ﷺ and one of the miracles in that Nabi ﷺ diagnosed Sa'd (RA)'s illness by placing his mubarak hand over Sa'd (RA)'s chest.
The remedy of using the crushed ajwa date seed was not a common remedy used by the arabs or the other physicians of the time and this is itself also a miracle of the Prophet ﷺ in that this was a "new" remedy not known even to Harith Ibn Kalada who was know as the qualified and trained physician of the Arabs. This is why Nabi ﷺ gave the instruction that Harith should administer this treatment.
